Strong winds warning: Essential safety advice for citizens

Given the strong winds forecasted by meteorologists, emergency responders have issued safety recommendations to citizens to minimise the risk of injury and material damage.

Citizens are advised to remain vigilant when outdoors. During periods of intensifying wind, it is recommended to avoid travelling, especially in open areas, beneath bridges, in parks, or wooded regions. While outdoors, individuals are urged not to step on broken or fallen wires.

Furthermore, drivers should exercise extreme caution when travelling in the capital and rural areas, particularly at the exits of wooded sections, villages, at bridge entrances and exits, or at intersections with large vehicles. Additionally, it is recommended to avoid stopping or parking near trees along roadways, as strong winds may cause them to fall.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations advises citizens to avoid parking vehicles or taking shelter under old trees or damaged buildings to prevent tragic incidents and material damage.

In the event of strong winds, it is recommended to avoid riding light vehicles, such as motorcycles or bicycles, as they may be unstable in strong gusts.

Adults and those caring for minors are urged to monitor them closely and prevent them from walking in high-risk areas during periods of strong wind gusts.

In case of risk, people are urged to call Emergency Services at 112 immediately.

It is important to note that a Yellow Code for sudden weather changes is in effect across the country until November 23. The weather will remain under the influence of the cyclone, with rain and sleet expected overnight, occasionally heavy. During the day, there will be no major precipitation. Isolated patches of ice may form, with icy conditions on roads. The minimum nighttime temperature will range from -2 to 3°C, while daytime highs will vary between 1 and 6°C.
