Romania's Constitutional Court demands recount of votes in first round of presidential elections
The Romanian Constitutional Court is demanding that the Central Electoral Bureau recount the votes in the first round of presidential elections, inform Digi24 sources. The decision was made at the end of a two-hour session, following the appeal filed by MEP Cristian Terheș, who accuses fraud regarding Elena Lasconi's votes.
The appeal filed by the candidate from the New Romania Party, Sebastian Popescu, regarding fraud committed by candidate Călin Georgescu, was rejected. The judges will resume the session tomorrow.
Independent presidential candidate Călin Georgescu did not want to comment on the request of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) to recount the votes in the first round of the election.
"It is an institution's decision, we do not comment on it," Georgescu's campaign team said.
We remind you that 9.2 million votes were registered in the first round of the presidential elections in Romania.
Călin Georgescu was the first with over 2.1 million votes, followed by Elena Lasconi with 1.7 million votes. In third place was Marcel Ciolacu, with a difference of 2,740 votes from the USR candidate.
