US raises concerns over Russian interference in Romanian elections
The United States expresses concern regarding Russia's involvement in Romania's electoral process through malicious cyber activities aimed at influencing the vote. The State Department in Washington underscores the importance of fully investigating the information provided in reports by Romanian authorities to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
"Romania's hard-won progress in integrating with the transatlantic community should not be undermined by foreign actors attempting to alter Romania's foreign policy away from its Western alliances," stated State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, referencing the allegations of Russian interference made by authorities in Bucharest.
The United States is concerned by evidence suggesting foreign interference influenced the fairness of Romania’s electoral process. Romania’s leaders and future are for Romanians to choose, free of external manipulation aimed at impinging on their democratic process.

Washington asserts that Romania's commitment to the transatlantic community cannot be compromised by outside forces looking to shift Romanian foreign policy.
"Any such change would have significant negative repercussions on security cooperation with the United States. Furthermore, any restrictions on foreign investment could discourage American companies from continuing to invest in Romania."
"Through a long-standing partnership, we have made important progress in our defense cooperation and economic partnership and have taken steps towards visa-free travel. We will continue to work together to preserve the security of our nations and the prosperity and well-being of our citizens," informs the State Department in Washington.
