"Despite dangers, the airspace of the Republic of Moldova remains open", claims the Minister of Defense
The airspace of the Republic of Moldova remains open, even if there are dangers in the context of the war in Ukraine, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi claims in a program from RLIVE.
According to him, the relevant authorities are carefully monitoring the situation, and depending on the evolution and in case of necessity, strict measures will be taken.
"We understand that it is a danger, but the probability is quite low. Closing the airspace would completely disrupt the air traffic on which many citizens of the Republic of Moldova depend. At the same time, they also depend on a lot of material aid that comes through different programs, including for refugees. I want to say that on this subject we are carefully monitoring the situation and, depending on the evolution of the situation, all measures will be taken to ensure security as was done previously", said Anatolie Nosatîi.
We remind you that in October, last year, three Russian missiles against Ukraine flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. According to the Chisinau authorities, the targets posed a danger to the infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova and, in particular, to civil aircraft flying over the country's airspace.
In the context of that incident, the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, declared in a show on Moldova 1 TV that he does not rule out the possibility that the airspace of the Republic of Moldova will be closed again.
We remind you that in February last year, with the invasion of Russia in Ukraine, on the recommendation of the Supreme Security Council, the Civil Aeronautical Authority closed the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. It was partially reopened at the end of March 2022.
