Călin Georgescu reacts to CCR decision to cancel presidential elections: "Romanians demand their rights today"
The candidate in the Romanian presidential elections Calin Georgescu issued a recorded message on Friday evening following the Constitutional Court of Romania's (CCR) decision to cancel the elections. In his message, he stated, "The Romanian people demand their rights today," as reported by G4Media.ro.
Georgescu criticized the Romanian state, claiming it has undermined democracy.
"We are talking about a sham. The Romanian people demand their rights today. We see party leaders around us quaking in fear that the documents revealing their corruption are about to surface. On this very day, the corrupt system in Romania has made a pact with the devil", said Georgescu.
We remind you that the CCR unanimously decided on Friday to annul the presidential elections. Although the reasons for this decision have not been clearly explained, it came after the declassification of information from secret services, which documented interference from a "state actor" in Georgescu's campaign.
The CCR also ruled that the electoral process for Romania's presidential election would start over entirely, with the government responsible for setting a new date. This means that the presidential elections will begin from scratch, requiring candidates to re-register and undergo the validation process with the Central Electoral Bureau.
In response to the CCR's decision, President Klaus Iohannis announced that he would remain in office until a new president is elected. He also mentioned that the future government of Romania would be appointed after a new Parliament is formed.
