Celebrating Romanian unity and heritage
A performance honoring the Great Union brought together writers and students from the Ciprian Porumbescu Republican Music High School at the Onisifor Ghibu Library.
The event paid tribute to the pioneers who laid the groundwork for the Union. Writer and moderator Dumitru Dan Maxim, along with the students, delved into history, recited patriotic verses, and performed piano pieces.
Two sixth-grade students shared their understanding of unity:
"We sang together. We practiced a lot to harmonize our performance."
"Our flag bears the word 'Unity,' unity of mind and heart. We will overcome any adversity."
Through these verses, the event's moderator evoked the memory of the great composer Ciprian Porumbescu.
"The 1859 Union was marked by the anthem 'On our flag it is written 'Unity,'" composed by Ciprian Porumbescu to the lyrics of Andrei Bârseanu. This anthem became a symbol of the 1859 Union. Interestingly, Porumbescu's melody is now the national anthem of Albania. Today's event honors these pioneers of the Great Union," said writer Dumitru Dan Maxim.
Poetry recitals and piano performances showcased the participants' talent.
"As a Romanian citizen, hailing from Bessarabia, I am honored to recite a poem about Bessarabians in Putna and the Union."
"It's a great honor for us. We're gaining experience and proud to be Romanians, Bessarabians, yet united as Romanians!"
"Through music, we can relive past events and honor our ancestors."
The recital of songs and poetry was complemented by a painting exhibition titled "Dialogue with Time."
"These works are by the painter Constantin Maxim. He lives in the village of Drăsliceni and creates extraordinary paintings inspired by our land and Romania, a country we once were," said Viorica Spânu, a teacher at the Ciprian Porumbescu Republican Music High School.
"This event cannot be forgotten or erased from our collective memory, especially for those who cherish our historical homeland," said Dumitru Dan Maxim.
On December 1st, we marked 106 years since the Great Union of Alba Iulia. In 1918, all Romanian-inhabited provinces united to form the nation we know today as Romania.
