Delia Lake gets new life: Renovation project underway
Delia Lake and its surrounding 111 hectares of land have been officially transferred from state ownership to the municipality of Ungheni, Moldova, for renovation.
The project aims to improve the condition of the city's water basin, and local authorities plan to invest in developing the lake, said Moldovan Environment Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.
With this transfer, the Ungheni municipality will be able to invest more resources in developing recreational facilities and improving the lake's infrastructure. Once the lake becomes municipal property, the municipality will be able to attract grants and funding to develop this beautiful lake.
Among the priorities are the renovation of the kayak-canoe school and the reinforcement of the dam, transforming the lake into an attractive recreational destination for all citizens, said Ungheni Mayor Vitalie Vrabie.
We have already made some progress in developing this water basin. Going forward, we will transform this lake, through projects, into a natural oasis for the benefit of our citizens.
A decision to transfer a 111-hectare plot of state land to the municipality of Ungheni, free of charge, was approved at the latest government meeting.
The Ungheni municipality requested the land to carry out maintenance and renovation works on the pond, which is in a dilapidated state and poses a flood risk to approximately 400 nearby homes.
