Former president of the “Șor” Party from Fălești will stand trial for complicity in illegal party financing

The President of the Fălești territorial organization of the “Șor” Political Party will stand trial. He is accused of complicity in the financing of a political party by an organized criminal group. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced the completion of the criminal investigation and has forwarded the case to court for trial.

According to prosecutors, the defendant allegedly coordinated the activities of the territorial organization between July and October 2022, fully aware that the party’s financing was coming from illicit sources provided by an organized criminal group. In collaboration with other party leaders, including vice-presidents, the treasurer, and couriers, he accepted approximately 1 million lei, which was intended for organizing protests and compensating participants. This was aimed at promoting the political interests of his party and unlawfully gaining power within the state.

The defendant denied his guilt. Under current legislation, he faces a fine ranging from 57,500 to 92,500 lei or imprisonment for a term of 2 to 7 years. In either case, he may also be stripped of the right to hold specific positions or engage in particular activities for up to 5 years.

Previously, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office sent similar cases to court targeting the presidents of the Ocnița and Dondușeni territorial organizations, as well as the leader from Ștefan Vodă.
