Lithuania offers the Republic of Moldova a batch of military equipment
The strengthening of the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania in the field of defense, security in the region, increasing the level of interoperability between the militaries of both states through participation in exercises and missions, as well as increasing national resilience to hybrid threats, were the topics discussed by the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, and the Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Vitalie Micov, at the meeting with the Chief of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania, General Raimundas Vaikšnoras, who was on an official visit to Chisinau.
During the visit, the Chief of Defense of Lithuania sent a batch of military equipment, which is part of an assistance project intended for the National Army.
"The Republic of Moldova is an important partner of Lithuania, noting the good contribution of our country to international missions under the auspices of the UN, NATO and the EU," said the Chief of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, Minister Anatolie Nosatîi appreciated Lithuania's support in strengthening efforts to ensure peace and security in the region and, last but not least, in promoting the interests of the Republic of Moldova in relations with external partners and international organizations.
"Lithuania remains an example for us in terms of the defense system and we count on the experience of Lithuanian partners, especially now that the National Army is in a broad process of modernization and professionalization," Anatolie Nosatîi said. Other topics of discussion focused on Lithuania's political support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova, as a strategic objective and guarantor of citizens' security, as well as the regional security situation.
For his part, Brigadier General Micov emphasized the good collaboration between the defence institutions of the two countries and thanked the partners for the "substantial" support provided to the Moldovan army in several important areas, such as the development and training of the National Army sergeant and private corps, as well as cybersecurity.
The Republic of Moldova and Lithuania have been cooperating in the military field since 2000.
