Gheorghe Hioară: Moldova’s independence leader passes at 76
Former ambassador, Member of Parliament, and signatory of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, Gheorghe Hioară, has passed away at the age of 76.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău announced his passing on Sunday, December 15. “He will be remembered as a passionate defender and advocate of fundamental human values, as well as the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. During this challenging time, we extend our sincere condolences to the bereaved family and to everyone who knew and appreciated him,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău.
The Administrative Council of the “Parliament 90” Association announced that Gheorghe Hioară passed away on Sunday morning after succumbing to an incurable illness.
Gheorghe Hioară served as the ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bulgaria from 1998 to 2003 and to Belarus from 2010 to 2017.
During both terms, Gheorghe Hioară made substantial contributions to strengthening and fostering multidimensional relations between Moldova and Bulgaria, and later Moldova and Belarus. He tirelessly promoted Moldova’s image abroad and represented its interests with dignity and professionalism, dedicating his entire life to public service.
