Natural Christmas trees in Moldova: Prices and holiday trends

The first natural Christmas trees are already on sale, with vendors presenting a variety of options. Sellers proudly showcase the most fragrant and beautiful trees, sourced both from Moldova and Denmark.

Prices start at 300 lei (15.63 euros) and can go up to several thousand lei, depending on the height and fullness of the tree. For now, many people are holding off on buying Christmas trees, as they believe it’s still too early. However, some of the few early buyers explain their decision as a way to preserve the magical atmosphere of the winter holidays for as long as possible.

Tall, lush, and fragrant, the natural Christmas trees for sale in the districts of the capital evoke a magical holiday ambiance. Vendors highlight the durability and beauty of their fir trees: “We have trees imported from Denmark, from Moldsilva, and from the nurseries in Briceni. The most sought-after ones are between 1.5 and 2 meters tall.” “Our prices range from 700 lei (36.46 euros) to 800 lei (41.67 euros). We also have smaller trees from Denmark for 650 lei (33.87 euros).”

While people note that prices are higher this year, many still prefer smaller natural trees: “Our local ones shed their needles quickly, but we’re considering others, even though they’re quite expensive. The ones we like most are among the priciest, but we’ll see what we can afford. We’ll decorate it now, celebrate Christmas on the new calendar, and keep it up until the Old New Year.” “It’s expensive, but it’s for my granddaughter. I don’t buy one every year, and this might be the last time I do. We have an artificial tree, but we want that specific natural scent in the house.” “We buy a natural tree every year. This time, we want a smaller one to place on the table, away from the child.”

Others opt for just a few branches to bring the holiday aroma into their homes: “We have a tradition of buying pine, but until we find the right one, we’ve bought some fir branches. This way, our child can still feel the magic of the holidays.”

This year, the state agency Moldsilva has made over 46,000 trees available for purchase directly from the nurseries.
