Ministry of Energy: Urgent modernization works needed at Chisinau Power Station
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes the urgent need to expedite the modernization works at the Chisinau Power Station, which will facilitate the connection to the Vulcănești-Chisinau High Voltage Power Line. This statement was made by Constantin Borosan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, following an on-site inspection. Borosan said that the companies involved in the project would actively collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure continuous progress.
Currently, about 75% of the equipment required for the modernization of the Chisinau Power Station has been delivered. Ruslan Surugiu, Director of the Energy Project Implementation Unit, assured that the installation of this equipment will proceed according to the established timeline.
The successful completion of this project, along with the expansion of the Vulcănești Power Station, will strengthen the electrical connection with Romania and link the Isaccea-Vulcănești-Chisinau line to the energy infrastructure in the central part of the country, including the municipality of Chișinău, while bypassing the thermoelectric power plant in the Transnistrian region.
Construction of the line commenced in March 2024, with a projected completion date set for the end of 2025, according to the authorities.
This project is financed by the World Bank and is being implemented by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Project.
