Ministry of Energy calls for reduction of energy consumption in state institutions
The Ministry of Energy has issued a circular to central and local public authorities, requesting the immediate implementation of concrete measures to improve energy efficiency in public institutions. The call comes in the context of the declaration of a state of emergency for 60 days in the Republic of Moldova, starting on December 16, and the imminent risks to the country's energy security.

The Ministry of Energy has proposed a series of concrete measures to save electricity and heat, with minimal investments, which can be applied immediately in public institutions without affecting the comfort of citizens. To reduce electricity consumption, the ministry recommends using natural light as much as possible and limiting the use of light bulbs during working hours. Institutions are also urged to replace incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, which consume up to 5 times less energy. Another practical solution is to install motion sensors for lighting in heavily trafficked areas, such as hallways and corridors. Also, electrical appliances and chargers should be unplugged after use, to eliminate energy consumption in standby mode.
Also, to optimize thermal energy consumption, the Ministry of Energy recommends insulating thermal pipes to prevent heat loss and effectively monitoring the temperature inside buildings. At the same time, installing electronic thermostats and thermostatic valves on radiators can help distribute heat more efficiently. In addition, it is proposed to inform and motivate employees to use energy rationally at work, by keeping hardware and doors closed and turning off energy-consuming appliances.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that energy efficiency is more than a cost-cutting measure: “it is a social responsibility.”
