Why September 2025 is the best time for Moldova's parliamentary elections
The parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova must be held no later than the first half of October 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Code and the Constitution.

The current legislature, formed on July 26, 2021, will expire on July 26, 2025. The authorities are required to set the date for the parliamentary elections within three months, making October 26 the latest possible deadline.
According to the Electoral Code of the Republic of Moldova, the decision on the exact date of the elections will be made by the sitting Parliament at least 70 days before the election.
Ion Tăbîrță: "The elections might be held in September"
Political analyst Ion Tăbîrță predicts that the parliamentary elections might be held in September 2025. "It is most likely, and I believe the authorities are also considering this, that the elections would be best held in September next year. This fits perfectly within the legal time frame," Tăbîrță stated.
He explained that this period offers several strategic advantages: "There will be a sufficient gap after the end of the cold season, as a wave of price increases for heating tariffs is expected. These increases will undoubtedly lead to greater unpopularity for any government, regardless of its geopolitical orientation."
Additionally, the expert explained that September provides a balance between the summer season and the start of the cold season: "Moreover, in September, the cold season has not yet begun, and the first concerns and predictions about how the next cold season might unfold will emerge. Also, it is not summer, when many people are away on vacation, and if a high voter turnout is desired, it would be more advisable to hold the parliamentary elections in September."
The calculations show that the election can be held between July 27 and October 26, 2025.
