Gazprom cuts gas to Moldova: Government responds with aid plan

The Moldovan government, in collaboration with its development partners, has prepared a plan to offer humanitarian aid to citizens on the left bank of the Dniester River, who have suffered due to the energy crisis.

The announcement was made by President Maia Sandu after a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, and Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian.

The President stated that citizens on the right bank of the Dniester have been provided with natural gas for the heating season, and the authorities are taking all necessary steps to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply.

"The Kremlin is once again resorting to energy blackmail in an attempt to destabilize the situation, influence the 2025 parliamentary elections, and undermine our European path. In these moments, it is crucial for us to stay united, show solidarity, and trust in Moldova and its people," said the President.

In this context, Maia Sandu urged citizens to use electricity sparingly.

Tiraspoltransgaz has disconnected 12 public institutions from the natural gas network in areas located within the Security Zone, confirmed the Bureau of Reintegration Policies. These include the Dubăsari district, the city of Tighina, and nearby areas, including four educational institutions, one medical facility, and two cultural institutions.

Additionally, heating has been cut off to several public buildings in Tighina, including local police and prosecutor's offices of the Republic of Moldova. The government is monitoring the situation in the region, according to a statement from the Bureau of Reintegration Policies.

It should be noted that Gazprom has officially confirmed that it will suspend natural gas deliveries to the Republic of Moldova starting January 1, 2025, at 07:00.
