Stay safe this New Year's: Fire safety tips and emergency advice

On New Year's Eve, over 450 firefighters and rescuers will be on duty in Moldova.

Staff from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) will be ready to respond to any emergency and carry out rescue missions, equipped with 140 specialized units of technical equipment.

During the winter holidays, IGSU reminds the public of the importance of following fire safety and security regulations to prevent fires and other dangerous situations.

According to experts, citizens must ensure that heating sources in their homes and apartments are used correctly to avoid fires and the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Christmas tree can also pose a fire hazard if not properly set up and decorated, experts warn. They recommend placing the tree on a stable stand and ensuring it does not touch radiators, the ceiling, walls, or electrical wiring. Lighting candles on the Christmas tree and using faulty electrical decorations is prohibited. It is important to turn off the lights and garlands at night to minimize any risks.

Furthermore, rescuers call for responsibility and urge the public to avoid using and setting off fireworks, which can cause fires, burns, injuries, and serious accidents.

Parents are urged to supervise their children and not allow them to play with open flames or use fireworks.

In case of an emergency, citizens are advised to call Emergency Service 112.
