Over 680,000 families benefited from compensation for December
In December, more than 680,000 families received compensation for light and heating during the cold season, as stated by the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, on his Facebook page. These compensations were made available starting January 10.
According to Minister Buzu, the budget allocated for December was 495 million lei, with the average compensation amounting to 727 lei per family.
"We guarantee that for all beneficiaries, the post-compensation tariff will not exceed last year's rates. From January to March, all recipients of compensation will also receive assistance for their electricity bills. The Government will cover tariff increases for a monthly consumption of up to 110 kWh. Additionally, starting in January, the Government will address increases in centralized heating tariffs," Minister Buzu explained.
The year 2025 began with significant increases in electricity and thermal energy costs, due to a rise in natural gas tariffs. These increases were approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) in response to the Cuciurgan Power Plant ceasing to supply electricity to the right bank of the Dniester starting January 1. According to daily reports from the Ministry of Energy, the resulting deficit is being met through local production and other external sources.
