Several weapons and ammunition, held illegally, have been seized in Vulcanesti
Arms and ammunition held illegally have been seized by prosecutors during raids at several locations in the village of Vulcanesti. The information was reported to Radio Moldova by Violina Moraru, spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office. Law enforcement officials say the case targets former members of a paramilitary group that existed in the southern part of Moldova between 1992 and 1993.
"As a result of special investigative measures of criminal prosecution, several illegally held weapons and ammunition were detected and seized, namely two smooth-bore guns, a pistol of the "Perfecte" model, three magazines for the "Makarov" pistol, two magazines for the "Kalashnikov" machine gun, more than 1,400 cartridges, powder boxes for loading cartridges and other devices," the General Prosecutor's Office spokesperson told.
Violina Moraru also added that criminal prosecution actions are currently being carried out in order to establish the circumstances under which the aforementioned weapons and ammunition were purchased, including procedural actions to establish the purpose of keeping them, as well as the persons involved in perpetrating the crime. At the same time, the Prosecutor's Office of the Gagauzia Territorial Administrative Unit has initiated criminal proceedings against several individuals for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
