Maia Sandu: Financial aid on the left bank of the Nistru will depend on two conditions

President Maia Sandu has stated that financial aid for the left bank of the Nistru will depend on certain conditions. According to her, this support can only be provided with the involvement of donors and if two specific criteria are met. Additionally, Maia Sandu urged citizens on both sides of the river to seek peace and reconciliation in order to navigate the energy crisis caused by Moscow. These statements were made during a podcast launched by the Presidency.

"We are prepared to offer financial assistance on the left bank, supported by donors, but this can only occur once the Russian army withdraws and a civilian mission takes over under the auspices of the UN or the EU. These are the key conditions for us to provide substantial aid," stated Maia Sandu.

Additionally, the president emphasized that the Chisinau authorities are ready to offer unconditional humanitarian assistance to the left bank of the Nistru.

"Our priority is to address the needs of our citizens on the left bank of the Nistru. Russia aims to escalate tensions, while our objective is to prevent destabilization in the region and within our country, especially given that we are neighboring a war zone. Any unrest could threaten the peace in our nation."

Maia Sandu urged citizens not to fall into Moscow's trap, which seeks to create rifts between the two banks of the Nistru and escalate tensions in the region.

"This is precisely what Moscow desires. They want citizens on the right bank to feel anger towards both the government and those on the left bank because we must assist them. Simultaneously, those on the left bank should not lose their positive sentiments towards the Chisinau authorities or the people on the right bank. Division and discord are crucial parts of the Kremlin's strategy."

It is notable that on January 1, the Russian company Gazprom halted natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region. Consequently, residents on the left bank of the Nistru, including those in the Security Zone, are left without gas and heating.

The authorities in Chisinau have proposed various forms of humanitarian aid, including medical assistance and generators, but these offers have been rejected by the leaders in Tiraspol.
