Republic of Moldova calls on Russia to stop military actions in the Security Zone
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission has called on the Russian Federation to respect the principles of the peacekeeping mission established by the July 1992 Agreement and to cease unilateral military actions in the Security Zone. The appeal was made during the meeting of the Joint Control Commission (UCC), held on Thursday, January 23, in Bender.

During the meeting, the Joint Military Command presented reports regarding the situation in the Security Zone for the period from December 25, 2024, to January 21, 2025.
The Delegation from the Republic of Moldova reported several violations of the Security Zone regime. This included the organization of military training exercises at the end of last year by the Russian Federation contingent within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. According to a statement from the Reintegration Office, these actions were carried out in violation of the approved Plan of Measures for 2024 and occurred near peacekeeping posts rather than in the designated permanent deployment areas. Moreover, the exercises involved armored vehicles that should have been retired since 2003, and were conducted by officials who lacked proper authorization.
“In addition, the movement of military observers, who were meant to document the violations on-site, was obstructed. As a result, the current peacekeeping mechanism on the Nistru was significantly destabilized and discredited,” reports the cited source.
Furthermore, it was reported that in the second half of 2024, locals discovered 758 explosives in the Security Zone, most of which were remnants from World War II. These explosives were safely destroyed under the supervision of sappers.
