Thousands of people gathered in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, to greet them.

The Israeli Prison Authority confirmed the release of the prisoners in the afternoon.

News.ro reports that Mohammed Tous, the longest-held Palestinian prisoner, who was detained for 40 uninterrupted years in Israel, was among those released on Saturday, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club.

This most recent exchange of hostages and prisoners is part of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip conflict between Israel and Hamas, following 15 months of hostilities. The first phase of the six-week agreement is set to secure the release of 33 hostages in exchange for around 1,900 Palestinian prisoners.
