Presidential adviser: Almost 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in the war
Up to 13,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the Russian invasion, said Mihailo Podolyak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the BBC reports.
According to the source, it is rare for Ukraine to provide casualty figures, and the official's comments have not been confirmed by the country's military.
In June, he said, between 100 and 200 Ukrainian soldiers were dying daily.
Last month, the top US general, Mark Milley, said about 100,000 Russian and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed or wounded since the war began.
In a video address on Wednesday, European Commission chief Ursula Von der Leyen said 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed. However, an EU Commission spokesman later clarified that this was a mistake and the figure referred to both those killed and injured.
