Romania, France and the Netherlands have signed up to a joint statement on security matters. The document reiterates support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova

On Friday, a joint French-Romanian-Dutch statement on security cooperation was signed by the three countries' foreign ministers, Catherine Colonna, Bogdan Aurescu and Wopke Hoekstra, Agerpres reports. The statement also refers to the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova, launched by Romania, France and Germany.

"Our countries are deeply committed to expanding and deepening our diplomatic relations and strengthening our capacities to confront present and future threats to our shared security and values. Today's declaration marks our ambition to take our partnership a step further, including on foreign policy, sustainable development and other relevant issues of mutual interest in the EU or a multilateral context," reads the text.

To this end, the countries' cooperation in NATO and support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova is reaffirmed.

"Romania, France and the Netherlands stand by and condemn Russian aggression in Ukraine. We will step up our support for the Ukrainian people to help them defend themselves effectively. Our support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, within its internationally recognised borders, as well as our multidimensional assistance to Ukraine, including related to long-term resilience building and reconstruction, is reiterated," reads the document.

France, Romania and the Netherlands are engaged in the fight against illegal migration, in line with the EU Pact on illegal migration.

In addition, France and the Netherlands "look forward to Romania's accession to the Schengen area as soon as possible", reads the declaration signed in Bucharest.
