Moscow accuses Chisinau of intending to amend the Constitution and join NATO

Representatives of Russian diplomacy accused Chisinau of intending to amend the Constitution and join NATO. They claim that if this process takes place, then the scenario in Ukraine might repeat in our country. The decision to join NATO can be taken by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, and currently our country is not ready to be part of this structure. The controversies created around the subject are part of the hybrid war, claim the authorities and experts from Chisinau.

The spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zaharova, accused the Republic of Moldova of anti-Russian propaganda and stated that the authorities in Chisinau would intend to change the country's neutrality status in order to join NATO. Maria Zakharova said that if this process takes place, then the scenario from Ukraine might repeat in the Republic of Moldova. The Republic of Moldova is not ready for joining NATO, and the controversies created around this subject are part of the hybrid war, declared the Moldovan Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, on a TV show on Realitatea.md. According to the official, a possible decision on joining a military alliance must be made after an extensive consultation process with citizens, and discussions on the revision of the neutrality status are the privilege of politicians. However, developments in Ukraine force the Republic of Moldova to rethink its strategy and be prepared for security challenges, the minister pointed out. Through these statements, Russian officials would try to undermine the security of our country, claims expert Mihai Mogîldea. At the same time, he also stated for Radio Moldova that Russia is undermining the internal order of the Republic of Moldova, beyond the statements, which are often fakes. "Our authorities must inform the citizens how things really are, how misleading these messages from Moscow are. The polls show that the positioning of the Russian Federation in relation to the Republic of Moldova only decreases the trust credit of our citizens in the leadership of the Russian Federation and in its policies towards the Republic of Moldova", declared Mihai Mogîldea. Accession to NATO would be the only solution for the security of the Republic of Moldova, said the political commentator from Bucharest, Sorin Ioniță, in the program "La 360 de degrees" from our radio station. According to him, this cannot be done quickly, because consensus is needed, both in Moldovan society and on the part of all members of the Alliance. Previously, NATO's deputy general secretary, Mircea Geoană, stated that NATO respects the constitutional neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, but believes that "each country has the right to make its own choice regarding the foreign policy vector".
