Moldova 1 returns to eastern Moldova after 30 years

Teleradio-Moldova (TRM) is pleased to announce the return of access to its public television station, Moldova 1, for the population in the eastern part of the country, following an absence of more than 30 years.

According to a press release issued on February 5, at least two cable TV operators in the region have begun broadcasting Moldova 1's signal.

TRM notes that the retransmission of the public station through cable networks is "an important step benefiting the region’s citizens." The press release further states that this development "helps strengthen the bonds between people on both banks of the Dniester, facilitating access to truthful information and a variety of media content."

Moldova 1 will continue to provide high-quality editorial content, adhering to the highest professional standards. The population in the Transnistrian region will have access to a reliable source of information, analysis, cultural and entertainment programs, broadcast in both Romanian and Russian, as well as in other minority languages.

In the cited press release, the company also affirms its ongoing commitment to expanding coverage across the entire Republic of Moldova and is considering the possibility of opening a correspondent office on the left bank of the Dniester to ensure a balanced and objective portrayal of the region’s realities.

It is noted that, after over 30 years, Moldova 1 has been added to the channel lineup of some cable TV operators in the Transnistrian region. This announcement was made by PAS deputy Roman Roșca and confirmed by residents, who report that the station is available on channels 30 and 47, depending on the TV package.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian welcomed this development, emphasizing that "every crisis can bring lasting solutions" and that this could facilitate the resumption of dialogue with Tiraspol.

The operator retransmitting Moldova 1, Interdnestrcom (IDC), is controlled by oligarch Victor Gușan, who holds a monopoly on telecommunications in the region. In the past, IDC has been accused of restricting access to international communication services.
