The Republic of Moldova, supported in three essential directions by the EU. MEP: "Increasing financial support is one of the pillars that helps this country"

The Republic of Moldova is receiving support from the European Union in three key areas. Romanian MEP Eugen Tomac, in an interview with Teleradio-Moldova's Brussels correspondent, Dan Alexe, emphasized that increasing financial support is crucial for the country at this time.

The European Union has allocated 1.8 billion euros in aid to the Republic of Moldova, making it the largest financial assistance package ever provided by Brussels. Tomac outlined that the EU's support for Moldova is focused on three main areas: financial assistance, the development of trade relations, and the strengthening of institutional reforms.

According to Romanian MEP Eugen Tomac, the European Union's funding will strengthen the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova, support over 25,000 local businesses, and facilitate the construction of two modern hospitals in Cahul and Bălți, equipped to European standards.

"The European Union is investing in the Republic of Moldova to help it prosper and address its shortcomings. Coping with the major challenges posed by Russia today is not feasible without this support. Increasing financial assistance for the Republic of Moldova is a key pillar that is providing significant help to the country right now," said Tomac.

The European Union is also enhancing access for Moldovan products to the European market, particularly following Romania’s entry into the Schengen area, which has reduced transportation costs and time.

"The Republic of Moldova cannot develop without strengthening free trade in goods, especially on the European market. I am confident that Moldovan entrepreneurs will benefit from this. Romania’s Schengen membership is a breath of fresh air for the economy of the Republic of Moldova. Previously, producers from Moldova—whether in the wine sector or food processing—faced transportation challenges to the European market, but now that obstacle has been removed. This represents a significant leap forward for Moldova's economy," Tomac explained.

Another critical area is the integration of Moldova's financial system with that of Europe. MEP Tomac believes this will provide numerous benefits for Moldovan economic operators, including the elimination of certain taxes and restrictions on exports. Additionally, joining the SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) payment system is seen as a significant advancement, allowing for faster and more efficient transactions. The removal of roaming fees for Moldovan citizens living, working, or studying in the European Union is also considered a substantial benefit, according to Tomac.

Alongside these economic initiatives, the European Union is also supporting institutional reforms in Moldova.

"Like any European state desiring development, the Republic of Moldova must adhere to the established rules. A society that respects these rules is predictable and earns the trust of its citizens. Investors are more confident in their future, and thorough reforms lead to a more reliable and stable environment, capable of facing various challenges, whether social or security-related," emphasized Tomac.
