Moldova and Romania’s joint electrification project for Iași-Ungheni railway
The Republic of Moldova and Romania are set to implement a joint project to electrify the railway line linking the cities of Iași and Ungheni.

The project, which will span 36 months, could serve as the first step towards extending the electrified railway line to Chișinău, as stated by Vladimir Bolea, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, in an interview with Moldpres.
Vladimir Bolea emphasized that this project is of significant importance to the Republic of Moldova, marking the first step in the national strategy for electrifying the Iași - Ungheni - Chișinău section, which is part of the TEN-T network, linking the Baltic, Black, and Aegean Seas.
The project will include maintenance and rehabilitation of the Eiffel Bridge over the Prut River, along with excavation of foundations, installation of poles, and equipping them with the necessary components for the electrification system to operate.
All activities will be carried out within the boundaries of the existing railway infrastructure. The project may be implemented with the support of the European Commission.
