Moldovan citizen Anton Malishev released after two years of illegal detention on the left bank of the Nistru
Anton Malishev, who was illegally imprisoned by law enforcement agencies in Tiraspol in February 2023, was released from prison, the Reintegration Policy Bureau announced on Tuesday, February 11. Authorities in Chisinau are urging Tiraspol to address requests regarding other high-profile cases involving Moldovan citizens who are unlawfully imprisoned in the region.

The Reintegration Policy Office reports that the case of Malishev was closely monitored by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian. This case was discussed in dialogues with external partners and during interactions at the level of political representatives and human rights working groups.
“This success is largely attributed to the effective cooperation with the Ombudsman’s Office representation in Varnița, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova, and other international partners, who played a vital role in solving this case,” reads the cited source.
Chisinau continues to urge Tiraspol to release all Moldovan citizens who are illegally detained in the Transnistrian region, including Ermurachi M., Menzarari S., Dimov Al., Zaharov O., Kuzmiciov Gh., Pogorletchii V., and Derebcinschi S.
Earlier this week, members of the Commission for Emergencies made an exception to the law on natural gas, allowing the left bank of the Nistru to receive gas through the Hungarian company MET Gas and Energy Marketing. In exchange, the government requested the release of political prisoners on the left bank of the Nistru and the removal of 11 illegal checkpoints.
