The impact of the war in Ukraine and increasing our country's energy resilience, discussed by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi in Munich

The security situation in the region, the impact of the war in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova and the necessary measures to increase the country's energy resilience were the topics discussed on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, during bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Poland, Lithuania, Iceland and Portugal.

During the discussion with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, topics of common interest were addressed, including the strengthening of Moldovan-Polish bilateral relations, boosting of trade and economic exchanges and the expansion of sectoral cooperation.

The discussions with Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, focused on the priorities of bilateral cooperation for 2025. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi thanked the Lithuanian authorities for the recent decision to donate nine generators to the Republic of Moldova, worth a total of 68,176 euros, thus contributing to the strengthening of the country's energy security. The Lithuanian official also reaffirmed Lithuania's firm support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and its readiness to continue assisting in the process of legislative harmonization with the acquis communautaire.

At the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland, Thorgerdur Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Mihai Popșoi stressed the importance of strengthening political dialogue and diversifying diplomatic representation, highlighting the opportunities for strengthening economic relations and cooperation in the energy sector. Also, he reiterated the joint commitment to develop friendly bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of the citizens of both states.

In Munich, Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi also met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset. The discussions focused on the results of the Secretary General’s recent visit to the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the launch of the new Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova (2025-2028).

The two officials highlighted the intensive cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe, as well as progress in key areas: justice, media, combating domestic violence, propaganda and disinformation, the fight against corruption and money laundering, and the protection of children's and refugees' rights.
