Public institutions in the Republic of Moldova reduce consumption and costs through energy efficiency measures
The Nisporeni District Hospital has significantly reduced electricity costs thanks to a photovoltaic panel system installed at the end of 2023. Bills have decreased by over 30%, and the savings obtained are directed towards improving conditions for patients. Similar initiatives are being implemented in other public institutions, such as the "Red Cap" kindergarten in Drochia, where energy efficiency measures have transformed the building into a more comfortable and attractive space for over 200 children who attend the institution.

"For us, it is one of the greatest achievements, because all the equipment in the institution is based on electricity, and through this we can save money; we can direct the money saved in other directions. Such projects help public institutions to save money on various bills; we, in this way, have seen savings on the electricity bill, because our institution, monthly, pays 200,000 lei, now we have reached 65-70,000 lei in the cold season, in the hot season, to 12,000-13,000 expenses on the bill", explained Nadejda Ulinici.
Energy efficiency measures were also applied at the "Red Cap" Early Childhood Education Institution in Drochia. The institution is now a warmer and more welcoming place for the over 200 children who attend it. The savings collected by reducing heating costs will be reinvested in other development projects, says the mayor of Drochia, Nina Cereteu.
*"As a result of the implementation of energy efficiency measures, which involved the complete replacement of the roof, the thermal insulation of the walls with the support, and as part of the mayor's initiative for economic growth, we made the early childhood education institution in the city more energy efficient but also very attractive for the children who attend it. We have savings on bills of about 30%," mentioned Nina Cereteu..
4.5 million dollars will be offered as a grant to the Moldovan authorities for project implementation to improve energy efficiency in public and residential buildings. From these funds, through the National Center for Sustainable Energy, energy audits will be carried out and technical documentation will be developed, and 3 million dollars will be redirected to the development of an information system for monitoring energy efficiency and professional training of those interested in the field. The Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova project also involves investments in the energy renovation of 46 schools and the installation of individual heating points.
