Moment of silence in Parliament, three years after the war. Igor Grosu: Ukraine fights with courage and dignity for peace

Deputies today held a moment of silence in the Parliament session in memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for almost three years. Photos of attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure were projected in the plenary. Speaker Igor Grosu strongly condemned Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, describing it as "illegal, immoral and criminal". He said that the purpose of this war is to impose the concept of "russkii mir" and restore an empire, at the cost of the lives of soldiers, women, children and the elderly.

"These are not images from a movie, but realities that our neighbors are experiencing firsthand. In a few days we will enter the fourth year of the war. If someone had told me three years ago that a few kilometers from the Republic of Moldova we would have a war, I would not have believed them. However, the reality is different. For three years, Ukraine has been fighting bravely and with dignity for democracy, freedom, sovereignty and peace. For three years, Ukrainians have been dying because they do not want to give up their country and because they are patriots," Grosu declared.

Also, Igor Grosu reiterated the support of the Republic of Moldova for Ukraine, mentioning the solidarity expressed since the first day of the invasion.

"From the first day of the invasion, the Republic of Moldova has been with the Ukrainian people. Thank you for your courage, for your resistance. Fight, love Ukraine! Moldova will be with you as long as necessary," the Parliament Speaker said.

Deputies affiliated with fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, convicted in the “Bank Fraud” case, hesitated to participate in the moment of silence organized in memory of the victims of the war in Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine, launched by Russia on February 24, 2022, caused thousands of victims and massive destruction, seriously affecting regional security and economic stability in Eastern Europe. Since the beginning of the invasion, our country has received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita in Europe. During this period, the refugees have benefited from social, medical, educational assistance and the opportunity to get employed.
