Igor Grosu: The authorities must intervene with adjustments to the legislation regarding the online environment to prevent Russian propaganda

The Moldovan authorities will have to intervene with adjustments to the legislation regarding the online environment to prevent Russian propaganda, the Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, said in an interview for the media from Romania. The official, referring to a poll, noted that a third of respondents believe that a special operation is taking place in Ukraine, as Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin calls the war in Ukraine. Although it is a shocking figure, this is the reality, says the Moldovan official, who recalled the government's actions to combat this phenomenon.

"On the one hand, we withdrew the license. Although in the case of televisions, 6 televisions that had a clear affiliation with the Russian Federation and with this underworld Ilan Şor, came under the sanctions of the USA and Great Britain. Also, we banned informational programs on Russian channels and on military and propaganda topics. Secondly, it is information, an alternative to correct information, which happens through the free media, through the rebroadcast of some channels from Ukraine. We realize, people who were formed during the Soviet Union, it's hard to wait for them to switch to Romanian channels and then it's good to give them in Russian, the correct information that they can analyze. So this is what we did, this is what we will continue to do. The fight will continue. Some of them have migrated online. We will have to intervene there as well", said Igor Grosu.

We remind you that on December 17, last year, the Commission for Emergency Situations decided to suspend the broadcast license for six television stations during the state of emergency. The CSE motivated its decision by the fact that several deviations were found, both in the coverage of national events and the war in Ukraine.

The head of state, Maia Sandu, stated that protecting the national informational space is an important step to prevent destabilization attempts made by people subject to international sanctions.

The TV channels that were left without a broadcast license categorized the CSE's decision as an attack on freedom of expression, considering it unjustified. Currently, the activity of televisions is carried out online.
