Minute of silence in Parliament in memory of writer Vladimir Beșleagă
At the beginning of today's plenary session, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova held a minute of silence in memory of the writer Vladimir Beșleagă, who passed away on February 25, at the age of 93. The Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, evoked the invaluable contribution of the master to national literature and culture.

"We received sad news, the passing of our writer Vladimir Beșleaga, the patriarch of our literature, a man who, both in his career and in life, demonstrated courage, generosity and simplicity. His books were and remain a point of reference in the formation of the young generation and a source of inspiration for Moldovans. Sincere condolences to the family and all those who knew and admired him," said Igor Grosu.
We remind you that the writer's funeral will take place on February 28, and a mourning rally will be organized at the National Palace. Also, the day of the funeral was declared a day of national mourning in the Republic of Moldova. State flags will be lowered to half-mast, and public institutions and citizens are urged to keep a moment of silence in memory of the one who marked the national culture and identity.
Vladimir Beșleagă is considered one of the greatest Bessarabian prose writers of the 20th century, he marked literature, but also history, he fought for the Romanian language, being a fierce fighter for truth and national values. He was a renowned essayist, journalist, writer and translator from the Republic of Moldova.
In 1956, he made his publishing debut with the children's prose volume "Zbânțuilă". This was followed by the books "Vacanța mea", "La fântâna Leahului", "Vrei să zbori la Lună?", and the psychological novel "Zbor frânt" published in 1966, which brought him notoriety. His books have been translated into several languages, and over the years he has actively participated in cultural events.
The manuscripts of several of his novels are kept in the collections of the "Mihail Kogălniceanu" Museum of Romanian Literature.
Vladimir Beșleagă was a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova between 1990 and 1994. He was awarded the title of "People's Writer".
Vladimir Beșleagă was born on July 25, 1931, in the village of Mălăiești, Grigoriopol district.
