National Day of Mourning. Vladimir Beșleagă will be laid to rest today. During the funeral, traffic will be temporarily suspended on several streets in Chișinău. The mourning rally will begin at the Nicolae Sulac National Palace at 9:30 AM, followed by the farewell ceremony at 12:00 PM at the Central Cemetery on Armenească Street. In this regard, Moldova 1 TV will broadcast a special edition starting at 9:30 AM.

Today, state flags will be flown at half-mast, and citizens are encouraged to observe a moment of silence in memory of the writer who shaped culture and national identity.

Vladimir Beșleagă passed away on February 25 at the age of 93. He is regarded as one of the greatest prose writers of the 20th century, leaving a lasting impact on literature and history while advocating for the Romanian language.

He made his literary debut in 1956 with the children's prose volume Zbânțuilă, but it was the psychological novel Zbor frânt that cemented his reputation. Vladimir Beșleagă also served as a deputy in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova from 1990 to 1994.

The writer was born on July 25, 1931, in Mălăiești, Grigoriopol district.
