CNA Report: Number of corruption offenses discovered in 2024 has doubled

In 2024, officers from the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) uncovered approximately 750 corruption-related crimes, a 47% increase compared to the previous year. According to the institution’s annual report, the highest number of cases were recorded in: Chișinău – 323 cases, Bălți – 71 cases and Soroca – 44 cases.

"Anti-corruption divisions have intensified efforts to uncover corruption schemes and systemic corruption cases involving employees of central authorities and local administrations, including department heads and deputies within these structures," the report states.

In 2024, the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) focused its efforts on public procurement fraud, mismanagement of external funds, and illicit schemes within the public sector. The number of criminal cases handled by the agency also rose by 36% compared to 2023.

Out of 1,491 total cases, 531 were finalized and were submitted for trial.The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (ARBI) imposed 330 asset seizures totaling approximately 1.3 billion lei, following parallel financial investigations based on 190 requests.

CNA conducted over 1,300 anti-corruption reviews of draft legislation and identified more than 2,500 corruption risk factors. The agency also organized 327 anti-corruption training sessions that were attended by over 21,000 people.
