Zelensky in London: UK strengthens Ukraine war support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to London, following unsuccessful negotiations with Donald Trump, injects fresh momentum into Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression.

This perspective was shared by political analyst and security expert Cătălin-Gabriel Done on Moldova 1.
“It is extremely difficult to predict how the leaders of the 27 EU member states will position themselves regarding Ukraine. We are already seeing close allies of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump—specifically, the prime ministers of Hungary and Slovakia—flirting with the idea of blocking any EU assistance for Ukraine. Zelensky’s presence in London is a renewed boost for Ukraine’s resistance, especially given that the UK has been one of its key military and economic supporters since the large-scale invasion began,” Done stated.
According to the analyst, Ukraine is currently in a vulnerable position and urgently needs strong allies and firm assurances from European states that they will not abandon the fight against Russian aggression. He also emphasized the necessity of securing favorable conditions for a just and lasting peace.
Europe’s confidence in the United States has been significantly eroded due to Donald Trump’s unilateral decision to negotiate directly with Vladimir Putin on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “It is deeply concerning for Europe that it has failed to maintain this alliance. It is clear that traditional diplomacy is no longer effective. Now, Europe’s military and political powers—particularly France and Germany—must show the courage to challenge Trump’s approach. Otherwise, if the EU fails to stand firm, the entire European security framework could be undermined and bargained away in direct negotiations between the U.S. and Russia,” Done warned.
On Saturday evening, President Zelensky arrived at the British Prime Minister’s residence at Downing Street. Keir Starmer reaffirmed the UK’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating that Britain would stand by Ukraine for as long as necessary.
To reinforce European backing, Starmer has invited approximately 15 European leaders to a summit in London to advance collective security efforts and ensure continued support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
