Rachel Reeves signs £2.26 billion loan for Ukraine with Russian assets

The British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, signed a £2.26 billion loan agreement with Ukraine, which will be repaid through profits from frozen Russian sovereign assets, Reuters reports.

Rachel Reeves signed the loan agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko joining the ceremony via video conference. Marchenko stated that he hopes a "full confiscation of all Russian assets" will occur soon.

Today, in London, allied leaders of Ukraine are gathering at a summit to discuss new security guarantees. Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was welcomed by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with dozens of people gathering to cheer him outside Downing Street. The British Prime Minister invited around 15 European leaders to the summit to "advance" actions regarding security and support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the British Prime Minister’s residence in Downing Street on Saturday evening. Keir Starmer declared that Ukraine has the full support of the United Kingdom for as long as needed.

It’s worth noting that, on Friday, Volodymyr Zelensky had tense talks in Washington with Donald Trump and JD Vance, after the White House leader accused the Ukrainian president of being ungrateful and toying with World War III. The deal for Ukrainian minerals fell through, and the press conference scheduled after their meeting was canceled.
