President of the European Council Antonio Costa pays a working visit to Chișinău

The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, is on a working visit to Chisinau on Monday, March 3. The official will meet with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

The visit of the President of the European Council marks three years since the Republic of Moldova submitted its application for accession to the European Union.

We remind you that the Republic of Moldova applied for accession to the European Union on March 3, 2022. Less than a year later, the European Commission issued its opinion on the application for accession to the community bloc. In June 2024, accession negotiations were officially launched.

The current President of the European Council began his mandate on December 1, 2024. In December, during the working visit to Brussels, President Maia Sandu met with Antonio Costa. At that time, he expressed the European Union's firm support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that will bring direct benefits to Moldovan citizens.
