Maia Sandu, on the ceasefire proposed by Washington and accepted by Kiev: "The path to peace requires real security guarantees for Ukraine"

President Maia Sandu of Moldova has welcomed the recent talks between Ukraine and the United States held in Saudi Arabia. As a result of these discussions, Ukraine has accepted the American proposal for a complete 30-day ceasefire. In a post on the X platform, President Sandu emphasized the significance of these negotiations in achieving a just and lasting peace.

Moldova welcomes the Jeddah talks and appreciates the efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. We recognize the commitment shown by the US and Ukraine, particularly regarding the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. The path to peace requires both courage and plausibe security guarantees for Ukraine.

Ukraine has agreed to an immediate ceasefire in its conflict with Russia following talks with U.S. officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday. The United States has also indicated its readiness to resume military aid to Ukraine, which was suspended after a nearly two-week dispute between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office.

President Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine, which initially requested a ceasefire by air and sea, has now accepted Washington's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire along the front lines.

In response, President Trump stated that U.S. and Russian representatives would meet "today or tomorrow." He also expressed his willingness to host President Zelensky at the White House again and to speak personally with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Russia has not yet officially commented on the outcome of the Jeddah talks. However, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told the state-run TASS news agency that Moscow does not rule out the possibility of contacts with U.S. officials in the coming days, though she did not provide further details.
