Nicu Popescu, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova, was awarded the Legion of Honor, France's highest distinction, at a ceremony held at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs in Paris. The award was presented by Benjamin Haddad, the Minister for Europe, in the presence of President Maia Sandu and several French officials.

“This recognition acknowledges the efforts to bring the Republic of Moldova closer to the European Union, to strengthen relations with France, and to contribute to the development of the European Political Community, including hosting the summit on June 1, 2023, in Chisinau,” Nicu Popescu stated on social media.

The former minister emphasized that, in an uncertain geopolitical context, the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and France is crucial.

We remind you that on June 23, 2022, during his tenure, the Republic of Moldova was granted candidate country status for EU accession.

“This honor is not only mine; it belongs to everyone who has played a part in achieving these significant goals for the Republic of Moldova. I am deeply grateful for the joint efforts that have brought us closer to the European Union,” Popescu added.

Nicu Popescu is a diplomat who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in various governments, including the Maia Sandu Government, the Natalia Gavrilița Government, and the Dorin Recean Government.
