The Vertical Corridor will allow bidirectional flows of natural gas from north to south and from south to north. For Romania, the event is important because it allows the import of gas from Greece (from Azerbaijan or imports of liquefied natural gas) as an alternative to imports from Russia.

Once the agreement is signed, the Republic of Moldova will also be able to import this gas, through Romania.

According to the source, the memorandum of understanding will form the basis of cooperation, regarding the possibility of building the necessary infrastructure for the transport of natural gas to the transit countries and to the EU market from Greece, through Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary and vice versa.
