Dozens of passengers were forced to stand on the wing of an American Airlines plane at Denver International Airport while evacuating the aircraft after one of its engines caught fire Thursday evening, releasing thick, black smoke into the air, according to news.ro, citing CNN.

The flight, en route to Dallas-Fort Worth from Colorado Springs, carrying 172 passengers and six crew members, was diverted to Denver at approximately 5:15 PM local time after the crew reported "engine vibrations," the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated.

"After landing and while taxiing to the gate, an engine caught fire," the statement read. The FAA is investigating the incident. The fire was extinguished, and all passengers were evacuated, a spokesperson confirmed.

Twelve people were transported to a hospital with minor injuries, the Denver Fire Department reported to CNN.
