Swine fever outbreak in Anenii Noi: over two thousand animals were slaughtered

Over two thousand pigs were slaughtered this morning at the farm in Roșcani where swine fever was detected in over 65 thousand pigs. The announcement was made by government spokesman, Daniel Vodă at a press conference. According to him, the process of liquidating the outbreak is underway, according to the plan approved and coordinated, including by the Commission for Emergencies in Anenii Noi district. Currently, the situation is under control, but the risk of new outbreaks persists, which is why the authorities keep increasing vigilance measures, said the official.
"The state authorities are in a critical phase of the intervention, and we try to prevent the spread of the virus, given that the economic agent in question is one of the largest pig farms in the country. We count on the support of farmers and the population to comply with safety conditions. At this stage, the situation is under control. ANSA teams, vets and law enforcement are on the ground permanently monitoring the situation in the locality. An intensified disinfection of nearby farms and means of transport in the region was ordered. Local authorities are mobilized to comply with biosecurity rules," said Vodă.
Moreover, the Government is conducting an impact analysis to provide compensation to the entrepreneur, said Daniel Vodă.
"At this stage, an impact analysis is being done, the cause of this outbreak is being identified, and we will come up with further announcements at the Government", said the Government spokesperson.
Meanwhile, residents of Roșcani are protesting against the burial of 65,000 slaughtered pigs near the village. People say they cannot breathe clean air and have endured the smell from the farm for years.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 30 outbreaks of swine fever were detected, some of which were eradicated.
