Deputy Alexandr Nesterovschi, sentenced to 12 years in prison for passive corruption and illegal financing of a political party

Independent deputy Alexandr Nesterovschi has been sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment in a closed-type penitentiary, having been found guilty of passive corruption, preparation, and acceptance of funding for a political party from an organized criminal group. The sentence was pronounced on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, by the magistrate Alexandru Negru, in the absence of the defendant.

"The judge said that Nesterovschi 'pleads guilty' and imposed a harsher sentence than that requested by the prosecutor. Previously, prosecutor Gheorghe Caragea requested a sentence of 10 years and 9 months in prison, arguing that the evidence in the case is conclusive and solid.

Protesters and supporters in front of the court

Several supporters of the deputy, including colleagues from the Political Block 'Victory', gathered in front of the Chișinău Court based in Buiucani, to hear the verdict. However, Alexandr Nesterovschi did not appear at the hearing."
