Expectations for the phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were high, yet, the results were low, political analyst Victor Juc said on Radio Moldova's "Zi de Zi" show. In his opinion, the Russian Federation does not want a lasting ceasefire.

The situation has changed so much that it is not the Russian Federation that needs respite, but Ukraine that needs respite, it is not the Russian Federation that is facing a shortage of weapons, ammunition, and manpower, but Ukraine. On the contrary, Russia has very well established its war economy, while Ukraine is dependent on foreign assistance. It is very good that the Ukrainians have understood it and are no longer counting on providing lasting and consistent security guarantees because such guarantees cannot be provided. In this way, it is seen that the Russian Federation still does not want a lasting ceasefire.

Victor Juc mentioned that the assistance provided by the European Union to Ukraine cannot compete with that of the USA, because the programs for rearmament of the community bloc are in their early stages.

The analyst believes that Ukraine should continue to work on signing the agreement on rare earth minerals with the US, the conclusion of which failed at the February 28 meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and the leader of the White House, Donald Trump.

We remind you that Vladimir Putin, during the phone conversation with Donald Trump, agreed to accept a limited 30-day ceasefire in attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, but did not accept the broader proposal for a ceasefire proposed by the US.
