Lilian Carp: Deputy Alexandr Nesterovschi, sentenced to 12 years for corruption, did not legally leave the Republic of Moldova

MP Alexandr Nesterovschi, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison yesterday for involvement in a corruption case, has not legally left the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The statement was made by the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee for National Security and Public Order, Lilian Carp.

"We need to see what the authorities say, what I know is that he did not leave the Republic of Moldova with a document issued by the national authorities, we will certainly have an answer in a few hours", declared Carp.

"We are counting on the responsibility of the institutions and their mobilization, it is extremely important to see a finality, we saw an extremely courageous decision, a light at the end of the tunnel because it is a conviction, we see that the justice system found the courage, especially in the aspect of political corruption", emphasized Doina Gherman.

Moreover, the elected representatives of the parliamentary opposition say that they are not interested in Nesterovschi's fate, because he would have betrayed them.

"Mr. Nesterovschi and I haven't communicated for a very long time, since he left our faction, since then we haven't communicated in any way and I don't care where he is or what he's doing. But regarding the conviction, I hope that the basis was evidence that cannot be subject to any doubt," mentioned Grigore Novac, BCS deputy.

We remind you that on Wednesday, March 19, independent deputy Alexandr Nesterovschi was sentenced to 12 years in a closed prison, having been found guilty of passive corruption, preparation and acceptance of financing of a political party by an organized criminal group. The sentence was pronounced in the defendant's absence.

According to prosecutors, Nesterovschi received sums of money and other benefits from the organized criminal group led by Ilan Shor to leave the Bloc of Communists and Socialists and contribute to the formation of a new political faction. At least $35,000 would have reached him for this purpose, along with plane tickets to Tel Aviv and an important position in the "Renastere" Party, controlled by Shor.

Moreover, the investigation also revealed another episode: Nesterovschi's attempt to lure a former deputy, Arina Spătaru, into an illegally financed political project. Prosecutors say she was taken to Israel, where she had a direct meeting with Ilan Shor. Shortly after her return, Nesterovschi allegedly offered her $50,000, 100,000 lei and a special mobile phone to communicate safely with Shor's group.
