Over 6,800 people benefited from cardiovascular surgeries funded by CNAM in 2024

Over 6,800 people benefited from cardiovascular surgeries last year, which were financially covered by the mandatory health insurance funds. According to the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), over 417 million lei were directed from the mandatory health insurance funds for this purpose.
More than 4,900 are minimally invasive interventions in adults in the case of myocardial infarction, 81 – minimally invasive operations for congenital malformations, and over 1,847 are other cardiac surgeries.
The cost of a case treated within the special cardiovascular surgery programs varies from 54 thousand lei per minimally invasive operation in adults to 83 thousand lei in the case of cardiac surgeries.
Also, CNAM informs that it financed 504 cases, 263 cases more than the previous year, within the “Electrophysiological Study and Ablation” program, which provides access to modern diagnostic and treatment services for cardiac rhythm disorders. Around 17 million lei were allocated for these interventions, including expensive consumables.
Insured persons, hospitalized on a scheduled basis or in case of emergency, benefit from free cardiovascular surgeries. For scheduled surgery, citizens address their family doctor or specialist doctor, who issues the referral form and ensures the performance of laboratory and instrumental investigations by clinical protocols.
These surgeries are performed, in 2025, within six medical institutions, three public and three private, contracted by CNAM.
