About 10 thousand poplars planted in Pîrîta

Over 10,000 poplars were planted in the village of Pîrîta, Dubăsari district, as part of the national afforestation campaign "Forest Generation". According to the Ministry of Environment, the action was made possible thanks to the "Donate for a Greener Future" initiative, through which people contributed to collecting the funds necessary to purchase the seedlings.

"Moldova can: tree by tree, donation by donation – we managed to plant another forest. Thanks to every person who got involved in the campaign, today, in the village of Pîrîta, on the banks of the Nistru, 10 thousand trees or 9 hectares of poplars are planted. This example demonstrates that the National Afforestation Program manages to unite society and the private environment in a common effort for a healthier Moldova," said Minister Sergiu Lazarencu.

According to the cited source, about 400 thousand lei were collected within the "Donate for a Greener Future" initiative.

This spring, the Ministry of Environment aims to plant over 8 million saplings on an area of 3,500 hectares, as part of the National Forest Expansion and Rehabilitation Program. The authorities continue to urge economic agents and citizens to join the initiative to contribute to the reforestation of the country.

The national afforestation campaign began this year on March 15. The action is part of the National Program for the Expansion and Rehabilitation of Forests - "Forest Generation". We remind you that, by 2032, the objective of the authorities is to expand and rehabilitate 145 thousand hectares of forest. In the first two years since the program was launched, over 300 million lei were invested in afforestation activities, including the acquisition of modern equipment and machinery, actions that contributed to the planting of 15 thousand hectares of forest by planting 65 million seedlings. Currently, the afforestation rate in the Republic of Moldova is 11%, while the European Union average exceeds 35 percent.
