Concerns in Anenii Noi after the mass slaughter of pigs: Authorities react

The Ministry of Environment assures that the process of burying pigs from the farm in the village of Roșcani, Anenii Noi district, is being carried out in safe conditions for the population and the environment. According to the institution, the chosen land is the local landfill, where the predominantly clayey soil layer limits the risk of groundwater contamination, and the perimeter is not in the protection zone of the Bîc River.
"All responsible institutions are fully involved to ensure that the process is safe for both people and the environment," the ministry said. According to the source, during the burial process, disinfectant layers based on lime chloride are applied between the deposition levels, and the pits are between 6 and 9 meters deep. The authorities have also raised the boundaries of the landfill to protect neighboring territories and have installed demarcation signs, with a protective fence to be installed around the affected area.
Representatives of the National Administration "Apele Moldovei", the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the National Food Safety Agency carried out on-site inspections.
The authorities' reaction comes after the residents of the village of Gura Bîcului addressed an open letter to the Government, expressing their solidarity with the villages of Calfa, Calfa-Nouă and Roșcani. They called for more transparency in the management of the swine fever outbreak. The signatories demand the publication of official documents that were the basis for the decision to bury, including expert reports on the soil's compliance and compliance with animal welfare legislation during the slaughter process.
The residents also insist on the involvement of local communities in the decision-making process and ask the authorities to comply with national legislation and international standards in public health and environmental protection.
We remind you that last week the largest pig farm in the country was affected by African swine fever. As a result, approximately 65 thousand pigs are to be buried. Swine fever was also confirmed at a farm in the village of Cimișeni, Criuleni.
African swine fever is a highly contagious viral disease that affects only domestic pigs and wild boars, but is not dangerous to humans! Over 90% of infected animals die. There is no vaccine or treatment for African swine fever. The virus can survive for a long time in the meat and organs of infected animals.
