U.S. and Ukraine hold talks in Saudi Arabia for potential ceasefire

Ukrainian and U.S. officials are holding another round of negotiations in the capital of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, BBC reports.
This information was confirmed to AFP by a member of the Ukrainian delegation, who stated that "discussions with the U.S. delegation are ongoing."
The meeting follows a day after extensive talks between U.S. and Russian representatives focused on a potential limited ceasefire in the Black Sea region. On Sunday, a first round of bilateral consultations between the U.S. and Ukraine was also held in the same format.
According to Bloomberg, citing sources close to the negotiations, the primary focus of the discussions is a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, with a particular emphasis on securing energy infrastructure and ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea.
U.S.-Russia Talks
A White House official described Monday’s discussions between Washington and Moscow as a significant step in President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring an end to the three-year war. Diplomatic sources state that a draft joint statement has been sent for approval to Moscow and Washington, with an official announcement expected on Tuesday.
The negotiations are taking place amid continued fighting on the front lines: a Russian missile strike on Monday injured at least 88 people in Ukraine, while Moscow accused Kyiv of carrying out an attack that killed two Russian journalists and their driver.
This round of U.S.-Russia-Ukraine talks follows phone conversations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on March 18, and with Volodymyr Zelensky the following day.
Previous U.S.-Russia negotiations were held on February 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian and American delegations took place in Jeddah on March 11.
